The black uses iron oxide and the white uses titanium dioxide, both fused at 800 degrees Celsius. Surface-painted hearts fade and scratch within 6 months; enameled hearts hold color through years of skin contact and salt exposure. The dual chains are joined at a single closure but split at attachment points with a 7cm length offset, calibrated so the hearts on the upper chain never touch the hearts on the lower chain when worn.
